Did you know? 60-80% of a robot can be reused, the rest is sent to certified recycling partners. Refurbishing a robot produces 75% less CO2 than producing a new one. We take back around 250 robots per year, allowing them to have a second life or even a third.

Faster production enabled by two gantry mounted robotic welding cells from ABB has delivered a major boost for Italian manufacturer Fedegari Group in meeting growing demand for its #pharmaceutical pressure vessels. With the flexibility and fast programming ensured by the system, cycle times have been reduced by 50%, with more vessels able to be produced in less time. Thanks to the robot cells, two different vessels can now be worked on at the same time, gaining time and efficiency. Added to the reduced programming and faster changeover times enabled by ABB’s RobotStudio® offline programming software, the solution has enabled Fedegari to achieve an overall 35% increase in its production capability. Another milestone for robotic development was arc welding capability. This image from our archives marked the launch of our IRB 2000 arc-welding robot which grabbed industry-wide attention when it hatched out of an egg at a show in Brussels in 1986. As well as design improvements to aid its motion the IRB 2000 used AC (alternating current) drive motors. Smaller than DC (direct current) motors and easier to maintain, they also lasted longer suiting the demands of the auto manufacturers of the time.
