Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) is a type of predictive maintenance (PdM) that uses sensors to measure the status of assets over time while in operation. CBM reduces unexpected production downtime, unplanned repair costs and lost production, whilst increasing production uptime.

Common technologies we use for performing this task are Vibration Analysis, Thermography, Ultrasonic analysis, Oil analysis (Tribology) & Motor current Analysis.

Do you have equipment in the engineering cupboard that’s not being utilised and is gathering dust?

Baseline-RTS Ltd can provide a number of different types of Equipment, Training, Calibrations, Services & Consultancy to assist you across these technical fields. If its wondering if the old thermal imaging camera that you’ve found on site is still any good to use, and what it could be used on ? Or maybe you are thinking about setting up a CBM team and thinking what is to best equipment for the budget that are best suited for your applications.

Regular monitoring contributes to the overall safe operation of your plant/equipment risk from fire, as well as recouping energy losses that may be incurring through leakage — be it energy, gas, or fluid — therefore increasing your company’s overall efficiency.

Taking your first steps into the world of condition-based monitoring can indeed be a little daunting, with the many applications you will have on your site and the many technologies available on the market how do you know which one is best suited?

Which technology is best for us?

  • Is thermography the best technology to use on a bearing?

  • What is meant by condition-based lubrication instead of time-based lubrication?

  • Would an Ultrasonic survey, or a thermography survey be better to find any loose connections within my electrical cabinet and ensure there's no partial discharge?

  • Should I employ a contractor to do this work, or should I purchase some equipment and do this in-house to save money?

Picking the right technology to use and having an appreciation of the multiple methods and applications a reliability engineer must face is not an easy task.

However, there are a number of things a company can do onsite to get your company more energy efficient, more reliable, and even gain a few ‘quick wins’ to help justify with the initial investment of the equipment and training, and quickly recoup these savings to help justify the decision for moving further into the world of condition based monitoring and predictive maintenance.

Baseline-RTS will ensure the right CBM equipment, training course and support is never far away. Get in contact for your free consultation today: 01580 830 368.
